John Carpenter's first feature film in 10 years, The Ward is set in a mental institution where a young girl is kept for treatment, and begins to suspect a malevolent ghost is picking off the other patients. Set in 1966, and starring Amber Heard, I really (really) hope that this is a return to form from the man who brought us Hallowe'en and The Thing after quite a few disappointments - although to be fair, I did enjoy Cigarette Burns. What are any of your particular favorite Carpenter films?
The Ward is out January 21st in the UK.
Just reading some of your older stuff here. I loved cigarette burns too. Obviously we all love his older work like Halloween and Excape From New York but you know what? I'm just going to say it. I loved the heckola out of GHOSTS OF MARS. Everyone hated it but me....Did you see that? There went my credibility.
ReplyDeleteI did watch Ghosts of Mars, but that was more to do with Natasha Henstridge than John Carpenter I'm afraid to say.
ReplyDeleteAs far as dodgy Carpenter goes, I didnt mind Vampires (could've done without the Marilyn Manson bad guy though) and you can't beat Big Trouble in Little China for a Sunday afternoon Carpenter matinee.
The worst Carpenters effort has to be Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear though! Dreadful.
